Insecurity is a common thing in long distance relationship because of the de facto separation of the couple. The thought that the other is beyond your reach and control is a torture you have to live with day by day. Negative thoughts like infidelity, dishonesty and cheating are silent companions of couples who are in long distance relationship.
There are two things long distance couples should observe in dealing with insecurity issues.
Firstly, long distance couples who are having insecurity issues can actually transform this negative feeling into a something positive and productive. By itself, insecurity is destructive, but if you go deeper and unlock the very source of it, you will find out that there is some kind of concern on the part of you towards your partner and the relationship. The challenge here for you is to look at the bigger picture and not just to zoom in on a particular issue that you believe is causing you to become insecure. At the deeper core of it, insecurity can also be a sign of love—because if you do not feel insecure, then that is maybe a sign that you have lost all the feelings for your partner.
Secondly, insecurity—especially if it is unfounded and baseless—is a sign of a poor self-esteem and poor regard of the self. The opposite of insecurity is self-confidence, and so therefore a person who lacks self-esteem is more likely to become insecure in all matters of life, not just about being separated with his or her loved one. In long distance relationship, you need to develop a considerable amount of self-confidence if you wish to succeed in the relationship. If a person lacks self-esteem, he or she is more likely to become the source of the collapse of everything, including the relationship. Long distance couples should give each other unconditional trust, and insecurity has no room in the relationship. Finally, insecurity is a virus that slowly kills the relationship.
