What Is COMMITMENT?
In almost all aspects of human life, commitment seems to be the underlying factor of survival.
In school, for example, a student will never make it to graduation if along the way he fails to commit and dedicate his life fully to studies. In the lives of the married couples, for instance, the marital union will never become a success if the couples are not committed in making the marriage work.
So what is “commitment” in long distance relationship?
A famous dictionary defines commitment as “an agreement or pledge to do something in the future or the state or an instance of being obligated or emotionally impelled.” The given definition seems abstract, deep and, yes, broad but very informative.
For purposes of simplicity and common understanding, commitment in long distance relationship can be defined as a promise to continue loving each other despite the considerable amount of physical distance that separates the two hearts. In short, commitment is a kind of assurance, a promise, a pledge, a commitment, a pact between two hearts that despite the dangers of being separated by distance love shall remain to be what it is the moment they separate up until the time that distance disappears and they are reunited.
The definition is one of the most beautiful imagery of love in long distance relationship. Love really conquers all, even space, time and distance.
So how is commitment in a long distance relationship being achieved?
This is the most difficult part of it because distance is very deceptive, canny and at times evil. When two hearts are separated, they are on their own. Distance also creates a great wall that makes the two hearts virtually blind about each other’s secret activities, affairs and yes, mysterious escapades. This is one thing love can never accept, but for reasons beyond human grasp, love can also conquer distance no matter how evil, deceptive and canny it can be.
Love has the power to suspend or better yet erase the physical distance that separates the two hearts so that they can be continually connected 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making them emotionally online 24/7. This is how powerful love can be. This is only possible, however, if the two hearts are living up the promise they have made—that they will continually love each other, NO MATTER WHAT.
